Welcome to Fiordland & Milford Sound
Etched into the southwest coast of New Zealand's South Island, Fiordland is a mecca for nature-loving travelers thanks to its dramatic cliffs, roaring waterfalls, and, of course, 14 glacier-carved fiords. Milford Sound is the only fiord accessible by road, making it a top spot for kayaking, boat cruises, and flightseeing tours. But if you have time and want something a bit more secluded, opt for a cruise through Doubtful Sound, also known as the Sound of Silence. Either way, most visitors start their adventure in the town of Te Anau, which is a scenic drive or bus ride from Queenstown, Dunedin, or Invercargill.
